A Complex Issue with more than Two Sides

Purpose Statement:
The purpose of this website is to problematize the use of voucher systems in the United States today by acknowledging the complexity of the issue.  Due to the variety of voucher schemes, it is difficult to identify overarching pros and cons that allow for blanket statements regarding the benefits of vouchers.  Thus, this site does not seek to draw a conclusion about whether vouchers are ultimately good or bad, but instead it provides various perspectives surrounding some advantages and disadvantages of voucher use.

This site was created by Sharon Fritz and Kaitlyn Branchaw as a project for their EDUC 148 class, Critical Inquiry Into Contmeporary Issues: Developing a Knowledge-base for Teaching in a Diverse Society, taught by Dr. Martin Scanlan at Marquette University.

This website offers:

    1. A broad overview of the voucher system as it affects low-income families, including examples from studies done on the effects of the voucher program and private schooling in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

    2. A closer look at Florida's John M. McKay Scholarship and its impact on special education students and their families.
